ESCAPE in chapter 17

The theme of escape is very clear in chapter 17, Holden trysto convince Sally to run away with him and  "drive up to Massachusetts or Vermont" he tells sally how marvelous it'd be. Holden has come up with this crazy idea because he is sick to death of new yourk, he is sad, lonely and deppressed there. Sally soon brings holden back to earth however she says "you can't just do something like that" this gets holden quite angry, hinting at is obsession with escaping as far away as possible from this life. Then he says "you give me a royal pain in the ass." After this, she "hit the ceiling" and wouldn't accept anything from him, even his profuse apologies. She's even crying, which makes him feel awful, as he is afraid of her Dad as well. Holden deserves to feel bad as this is a stupid thing to do! He leaves Sally, which he admits was a bad thing to do, but he tells us he meant it when he asked her, which in his eyes, makes him a little bit of a madman.
